Abstract
The effect of eight frequencies of audible continuous sounds (100 Hz, 1000 Hz, 1500 Hz, 2000 Hz, 2500 Hz, 3000 Hz, 3500 Hz, 4000 Hz) on the growth of seedlings of spring wheat cv. Urbanka was investigated. Intensity of sounds was 90 dB. The experiment was carried out at 10°C and 15°C temperatures. Length of shoots and roots and their fresh and dry weights was measured. It was confirmed that the response of plants on sounds was dependent on their age and surroundings temperature. More strong positive reaction of shoots and roots step out at 10°C, particularly on lower frequencies: 100 Hz, 1000 Hz, 1500 Hz, 2000 Hz and 2500 Hz. At 15°C stimulated activity of sounds was stated only on weight of roots. It showed higher sound frequencies: 3000 Hz, 3500 Hz and 4000 Hz. At 4000 Hz the increase of roots length was also found. Some frequencies influenced in different way on shoots and roots of experimental plants, for example 4000 Hz at 15°C stimulated growth of roots and repressed growth of shoots. At 10°C by 4000 Hz the strongest inhibition of roots and shoots growth and decrease their fresh and dry weights was stated. The way of plants on definite sound frequencies may be the result of weaker or stronger resonans in cell structures of respective tissues in shoots and roots, different in their anatomy structure.
