Abstract
Although I accept the relationship between Politics VIII and Poetics, I don’t accept the ethical-political paradigm according to which Poetics can be understood only as a “political” way of life. The relationship between the two texts resides mainly upon the notion of diagoge – intellectual pastime. To the free spectator, poetry means the possibility of a minimal exercise of theoretical thought consisting of the recognition of an intellectual content through imitations, which are not incompatible with emotions, at least in a certain way. Thus, Poetics is illuminated by the “psychological” works. And Poetics illuminates them in turn, in an outstanding way, regarding the relationship of our two cognitive abilities: perception and intellection.
