Abstract
Phytochemical studies on the methanolic extract of Amrosia psilostachya, native to Manitoba, have resulted in the isolation of two new sterols, ambrosinal A (1) and ambrosinal B (2) along with a known sesquiterpene lactone, coronopilin (3).Spectroscopic methods were used to establish the structures of these new and known compounds.Single crystal X-ray diffraction studies on compound 3 were also performed.Compounds 1-2 exhibited moderate antibacterial activity against pathogenic bacteria while compound 3 was weakly active in glutathione Stransferase inhibition assay.
