Abstract
In discussions of whether Nāgārjuna was an ontological realist or a nihilist, one key concept is omitted from most discussion: the “that-ness” (<i>tattva</i>) of phenomenal reality that is revealed once our conceptual overlay is removed. Once his notion of <i>tattva</i> is understood as a central element in his ontology, the idea that he was a full-blown nihilist disappears.
