Abstract

The article consists of two parts. The first one is devoted to the author's memories of his teacher in the comprehension of archaeology – Vladimir Fedorovich Gening, his method of educating students' professional independence and responsibility, the demanding and principled training of assistants and junior colleagues, and the high authority of the teacher. During 1958–1963 V.F. Gening explored a number of important sites and discovered archaeological cultures, including the Imenkovo and Kushnarenkovo cultures. The author of the article also took part in the excavations of these sites. An indicative fact is that yesterday's students became co-authors of one of the first monographs by V.F. Gening. The second part tells the history of the discovery and gives a brief description of the new, outstanding of the Stone Age in the Kama region, which made it possible to identify such cultures as the Middle Volga Paleolithic and Mellyatamak Mesolithic.
