RECORDAÇÕES DO ESCRIVÃO ISAÍAS CAMINHA:ENTRELAÇAMENTO DE AUTOBIOGRAFIA E MEMÓRIANA OBRA FICCIONAL DE LIMA BARRETO

This work analyzes Lima Barreto's novel Recordações do escrivão Isaías Caminha as an example of autobiographical fiction, in which the recollections of the character-narrator establish parallels with the author's biography.Simultaneously, the narrator depicts an arresting cultural and political panorama of Rio de Janeiro at the beginning of the XX century.With the support of Philippe Lejeune's concepts of autobiography and related genres in "The autobiographical pact" and Wander Melo Miranda's studies about the permeable borders between memoir and autobiography, in Corpos escritos, the novel's characteristics of memoir are emphasized.It examines further Lima Barreto's vehement indictment of a hypocritical and biased society, from the standpoint of someone who had personally experienced the suffering of poverty, illness, solitude and prejudice.
