Abstract

The transformation of society in the process of introducing artificial intelligence (AI) is one of the most pressing problems of the social sciences, while the issue of limits to the creation of strong AI draws less attention. The purpose of the article is to outline the impact of AI devices on the transformation of society. The study describes a society in which the epistemological problem of turning big data into knowledge turns out to be an acute social problem. It is noted that the creation and implementation of AI is a response to a new social challenge, and the prerequisite for these processes is new communications based on digital platforms serving as the technological basis for the external cybernetic "nervous" system of segmented social communities. These platforms are also the technological basis for the formation of digital virtual sociality, an essential element of reproduction of an increasingly complex society that is turning into a hybrid sociality. Depending on the type of hybridity, the types of intelligent agents (IA) are distinguished; each type differs in the environments in which it functions, and the way the environment is described. However, a common feature of such descriptions is their algorithmic nature and functionality. The algorithmic description of the IA environment does not coincide with the integral or object-structured description of the same environment by a social agent. It is concluded that due to the above circumstances, the creation of an IA with strong AI is possible only in the form of intelligent systems based on digital platforms as a complex of communicating agents of sociality and AI agents with a common ontology, some regions of which are made in the form of an algorithmic description.
