Abstract
Heavy fuel oils have been contaminated by organo-metallo-porphyrin, which may naturally exist as soluble harmful impurities. These impurities might increase the combustion capabilities by adding organo-additive compounds. These compounds are characterized by a large heterocyclic moiety (head) attached to an aliphatic chain (tail). The blending process between the additives and impurities of fuel oil, actually, commenced at the ambient temperature. The addition of such additives caused the precipitation of additiveimpurities.Different types of the precipitates are formed on the bases of their solubility products. The precipitates of each ESDE (impurities-additive) product is selected the adequate dosage. The elimination of the harmful in form of insoluble metal and non-metal ions are assessed by applying EDXRF, XRD, AA and FTIR techniques.Based on the results of mutual solubilities, three mechanisms based on the electron repelling force, the inductive effect and the steric hindrance of the substituted radical at the end of the tail have been implemented.
