Abstract
This paper approaches the problem of the low quality of public spaces in Brasilian cities, with brief descriptions of changes in some of them, for instance, in largo da Memória in São Paulo. It deals with the move of social and leisure activities to spaces with semipublic character and, at the end, discusses the role of some design concepts
