Abstract
In this paper cellular automata (CA) has been used to represent the difference in capacity values with change in driving characteristics. Driving behaviour is one of the key reasons for change in macroscopic properties of the same facility. A cellular automata model to simulate traffic stream following different driving characteristics is presented. Every driver reserves some space in front of the vehicle during movement as well as during motion. The proposed model takes into consideration these distances which is an outcome of driver psychology. The proposed model satisfies various microscopic properties such as local stability, asymptotic stability and closing in shying away behaviour. Capacity value obtained for lane discipline case using the proposed model were found to be comparable with the values suggested by HCM 2010. The results of simulation depict that a change in driving characteristics from non-lane discipline to lane discipline brings about a considerable change in capacity values.
