Abstract
High-performance MXene based capacitive humidity sensor is fabricated by a drop casting method. The material is characterized by Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometry (FTIR), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD). The fabricated capacitive humidity sensor was tested at various frequencies (100 Hz−1 MHz) in a broad relative humidity (RH) detection range (13–97%). The capacitive sensitivity of MXene increased to 3400% at 90% RH and lower frequency (100 Hz) whereas, at the same % RH and high frequencies such as 100 kHz, 250 kHz, and 1 MHz, the sensitivity decreased to 13.5%, 8%, and 3.9% respectively. A rapid capacitive response/recovery time (1.11/0.65 s) recorded at lower frequency which is comparatively shorter than that at higher frequency (3.8/1.02 s). The 2-dimensional (2D) structure of MXene enables the sensor to detect minute RH variation of 1%. These features allow the MXene based sensor to monitor human respiration and physical condition by displaying specific patterns.
