Abstract
End-stage renal disease (ESRD) is a complex condition that requires lifelong renal replacement therapy to survive. As a psychosocial dyad, couples face several challenges due to the strict regime of dialysis attendance, vascular access care, fluid and dietary restrictions, adherence to poly-pharmacy protocols, disease- and/or treatment-related complications. These demands can severely impact the couple's routines, relationship dynamics and goals, increase the couples’ unmet needs, psychological distress, and burden.
